QUOTE OF THE DAY

“Law-breaking is one way to run from God. Law-keeping is another way. Christianity is coming to God through Jesus’ obedience.”

THE GOOD STUFF

NEW YEAR, NEW YOU

As we get ready to turn the calendar to a new year, many of us are planning out goals and resolutions to make 2022 the best one yet.

"I'm going to run that half marathon (that I've been meaning to do for the last 5 years)."

"I'll be in bed by 10pm and up at 6am every morning (but maybe not the weekends)."

"I'm going to eat less than 6 pieces of cake the whole year (unless there is a birthday party or something)."

"I'll read a book a month (but then probably end up trying to cram 5 short books in December)."

The start of a new year provides a great opportunity for us to pause and "consider our ways" (Haggai 1:5). We should do this (and not just once a year before the ball drops). It's good to evaluate and set physical goals. We should set intentions for growth at work. But let's not neglect the importance of our spiritual growth.

As you set aside time to make your new year's resolutions, spend some time walking through these 10 questions from Don Whitney. And then maybe go back through them again in March. And recognize that the act of "achieving" requires dependence on God with the help of the Spirit ("Apart from me you can do nothing” - John 15:5)

  1. What’s one thing you can do this year to increase your enjoyment of God?

  2. What’s an impossible prayer you can pray?

  3. What’s the most important thing you could do to improve your family life?

  4. In which spiritual discipline do you most want to make progress this year?

  5. What’s the single biggest time-waster in your life, and how can you redeem the time?

  6. What’s the most helpful new way you could strengthen your church?

  7. For whose salvation will you pray most fervently this year?

  8. What’s the most important way, by God’s grace, you will try to make this year different from last?

  9. What one thing could you do to improve your prayer life this year?

  10. What single thing can you plan to do this year that will matter most in ten years? In eternity?
