LIFE IN A FEW PARAGRAPHS

by Deb Cory | Member at Redeemer

"So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom." - Psalm 90:12

I love to read obituaries.

It's not so much a morbid curiosity as it is an undeniable interest in how people live and what others have thought about their life.

I find the details fascinating. I'm in awe of the abundance of some obits, many as long as six columns across an average newsprint page, and the stark emptiness of others. I see lives full of people and service and then I see the sad words following some, "If anyone has information regarding this person, please contact..."

Siting several examples from a recent Sunday paper:

'He enjoyed watching and coaching baseball, fishing and watching the Colts on TV.'

'She loved her time at Purdue University, and especially her experience in the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority where she had many friends.'

'He lived by a motto he wore on his shirt, "To live is to dance and to dance is to live."'

What will your obituary say?

What would you want the world to think about the person that is now relegated to a few short paragraphs in the Sunday paper?

When it's all said and done, we all have so many days, months years allocated by our Creator. Each day that passes gives us a chance to live for Christ or self. Each day presents itself with choices to draw nearer to God, farther from His will, or stagnate in our comfort.

John Piper's extraordinary book, 'Don't Waste Your Life' tells us that "to go down to the grave, working to the end for His kingdom, is the beauty of a life designed by God for the unique purpose He has designed us."

May our obituaries read that while we accomplished much in our mortal life, nothing compares to the glory that we are headed to. May we understand that all known works accomplished here on earth will crumble like dust as we approach the throne of God. Only those things done humbly, quietly and in Christ's name, will shine in the crown that we will receive.

LORD, give us eyes to see what You would have us do! May we live each day as if it were our last and may we do it all for Your glory!

Ephesians 5: 15-20 NLT -

"So be careful how you live. Don't live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Don't act thoughtlessly, but understand what the LORD wants you to do. Don't be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the LORD in your hearts. And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our LORD Jesus Christ."

STAFF PICKS

BOMBAS! BOMBAS!

I've recommended this before and I will probably recommend it again. My wife is already rolling her eyes. Some of my friends are probably unfriending me because I'm talking about socks again. But listen up everybody...

This isn't just about socks. This is about amazing customer service, a company that gives back to a great cause, AND socks (+ t-shirts, slippers, and undies). Bombas has a Lifetime Happiness Guarantee on every item they sell, meaning (this is me quoting from their website so it's legit): "we will do what it takes for you to be satisfied with your Bombas, whatever it takes. If your socks don't fit, we'll help you return or exchange. If your shirt develops a hole, we'll replace it. Dog chewed up your socks, we'll replace them."

It's real. I've done it. And I've had new socks at my door in less than a week after letting them know that mine had developed holes. We all spend too much money on things to have to spend too much money on buying those same things again. Imagine buying socks once, and then not having to buy socks again.

Last thing... for every item you purchase from Bombas, they donate a pair to community organizations that help those experiencing homelessness. Get socks for life AND help others? Yes, please!

Click this link to get 25% off your first purchase. And then reply to this email and celebrate with me (or make fun of me).
